Fires: 10 people live to tell

Fires consumed housing in the USA and the UK but everyone lived to tell: no less than 10 people rescued and survived what could have been more than a material tragedy.
In Birmingham (USA) a 3 story apartment caught fire. Firefighters rescued 8 people there, 4 of which had to be taken to the. None of the injuries is life-threatening.
In Belfast (Ireland) a flat caught fire. Firefighters there saved two men.
“They were trapped because the smoke had blocked their means of escape - they were trying to get out of the window. But unfortunately they were overcome by the smoke before they could make their exit that way. The house is very badly damaged on the ground floor and the upper two levels are quite unscathed.”
