Museum volunteer citizen of the year
Published: March 21, 2005
Farmer and museum volunteer Ross Frank was named Citizen of the year at this year’s annual banquet of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Saturday.
Frank’s involvement with the museum goes back to 1992, when the city bought the old general store once run by his parents. The store was relocated to the museum grounds from Dailey.
He also helped with the recreation of the 1930 filling station, one of the museum’s newest additions.
Frank and his son completed the museum’s barbershop, based on an original building they found at an auction in Haxtun. They helped move the contents of the original building to the museum, and built a replica of the barbershop building.
Museum staff say Frank helps out in other ways, from painting to pulling weeds.
Frank said the volunteering at the museum allows him to meet people from all across the county. Co-workers say his sense of humor and energy make him a pleasure to work with.
In addition to volunteering at the museum, Frank still lives and works on a 1,500 acre farm in Dailey.
Frank was also recognized earlier this year as an “Angel Among Us” by the Journal-Advocate.
When asked why he volunteers at the museum, Frank told the paper with a straight face, “It keeps me out of the pool halls and off the streets.”
Others honored Saturday by the chamber are:
* Businesspersons of the Year - Steve Meier and Bill Hoal, both of Bank of Colorado. Among other services, the two gave partial pursuit to the man who robbed the Wells Fargo earlier this year.
* Customer Service Award - Barnes Pharmacy
Best Supporting Business of the Year - Northeastern Junior College
* Chamber Ambassador of the Year - Patty Vandenbark
