Bakers hope to bake dozens for kids’ charity

Published: March 10, 2005

High street bakers are being urged to raise some dough for National Doughnut Week.

The week begins on April 16 and the money raised will go to The Children’s Trust, a charity for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs.

Bakers will try to sell as many doughnuts as possible for the charity and are hoping to exceed the £38,000 raised last year.

Oonagh Goodman, corporate relations manager for The Children’s Trust, said: “This is a great fundraising event and we would urge bakers to come forward and register their support to help raise money for our charity.

“It’s so easy to do the more doughnuts sold to customers the more money raised. I hope all bakers will respond to our appeal and make a difference to the very special children in our care.”

Burgers, of Marlow, took part in last year’s event and will be doing so this year.

Ricarda Grothaus, manager of the shop, in The Causeway, said: “We will definitely be taking part again this year. We sell hundreds of doughnuts during the week and raise a lot of money.

“It’s hugely popular.”
