Fire pair saved by alarm

A smoke alarm saved the lives of a Birmingham couple today after a freak electrical blaze broke out at their terraced house.
Amar Khan and Jangier Agzar were able to escape from their home in Ombersley Road, Highgate, at 2.20am.
A fire had broken out at the point where the electrical supply enters the house and smoke had filled the property.
Highgate Fire Station Officer Patrick Lynch said: “They were woken up by the smoke alarm. It saved their lives.”
The couple were shocked, but otherwise unhurt.
The fire caused extensive smoke damage to the property.
