Pair rescued from swollen creek

Published: February 3, 2005

A man and a woman have been pulled from a flooded creek in far north Queensland after their car was swept off the road during heavy storms last night.

A severe electrical storm dumped 60 millimetres of rain in an hour on the region around Herberton.

Police say the couple had been trying to cross Sandy Creek when strong currents pushed their vehicle off the causeway.

The man managed to get out of the car and cling to a tree, but lost sight of his wife as the car was washed away.

Rescuers later found the woman on the bank. Neither was seriously injured.
