Man rescued from house fire

Published: February 3, 2005

An Ulverstone man was rescued from his burning house on Tasmania’s north-west coast this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Leighland Avenue just after 8:00am AEDT.

The house received sustained significant damage, but the cause has not yet been determined.

Fire investigator Mark Brownrigg says the occupant was lucky to escape unharmed.

“It was an alert neighbour taking out his wheelie bin around 8:10am AEDT who noticed smoke coming from the structure across the road,” he said.

“He went over and knocked on the door and woke the occupant up and got him out of the house.”
