Missing girl spotted by motorist, returned safe

Published: January 27, 2005

A 15-year-old girl who had been reported missing since Thursday evening was found safe Monday afternoon in Vancouver.

A motorist spotted Nancy Taylor along Evergreen Boulevard at about 5 p.m. Monday and telephoned her guardian, Shannyn Schindler. Schindler then called 911 to notify police, since a missing person report had been filed.

“She’s safe; she’s OK,” Schindler said Monday evening. “We’re all extremely relieved.”

Taylor’s family members and friends became concerned because she called them Thursday and said she was a on C-Tran bus traveling on Fourth Plain Boulevard. She apparently made the call using a cell phone she had borrowed from an unidentified man.

Nancy was supposed to transfer to a bus headed for Hazel Dell, but C-Tran surveillance tapes showed she never boarded the bus.

A story about the missing girl, along with her photo and Schindler’s telephone number, were published in Saturday’s issue of The Columbian.

Clark County Sheriff’s Detective Eric O’Dell had been looking into the case, Schindler said.
