Ice climbers rescued
Published: January 27, 2005
Two ice climbers were rescued this morning after spending a frigid night on New Hampshire’s Mount Washington.
Damian McDonald and Susanna Saarkangas of New Haven were climbing on a part of the mountain known as Damnation Gully in Huntington Ravine.
They were reported missing last night when a caretaker at the Harvard cabin noticed that they hadn’t returned.
Searchers began looking for the pair around six o’clock this morning and found them about three hours later.
U.S. Forest Service officials say the two are suffering from hypothermia and frostbite but otherwise are OK.
