An 82-year-old Cincinnati man was rescued Tuesday evening after he drove his car into high water on Kellogg Avenue and it stalled, leaving him in frigid water for 40 minutes.
Wilburn Hines was taken to University Hospital for cold exposure. His condition was unavailable, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, officials said.
A Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy was called to help Hines about 7:15 p.m. The deputy made his way through the water to the car, stayed with Hines and kept Hines’ head above the water until Anderson Township firefighters were able to reach them.
The rescue took about 20 minutes, and Hines had been in the water for 20 minutes before the deputy arrived, Hamilton County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Barnett said.
The deputy, Brian Hayes was treated for cold exposure at Mercy Hospital Anderson and released.
