Jack Russell dog returned home safe and sound

Golden Square residents Ted and Barbara Franklin can now enjoy the rest of 2005.
After losing their beloved Jack Russell dog on New Year’s Eve, the couple had all but given up hope when Jack hadn’t returned for almost two weeks.
A petrified Jack escaped from the Franklins’ yard on New Year’s Eve after illegal fireworks were detonated in the area.
Although suffering from exhaustion and weight loss, Jack returned home safely after being found in Casey Street, East Bendigo.
The Franklins were overwhelmed with support from surrounding residents.
“The people of Bendigo are fantastic. They sympathised towards us and offered their services - some even brought little gifts around.”
The connection to Jack was extremely strong for Mrs Franklin.
Mrs Franklin had to deliver Jack because he was too big to give birth to.
“It may sound a little silly, but I was frantic with worry,” she said.
“It is hard to believe you can become so attached and the dogs are really like children.”
Jack’s mother Lara also resides at the Franklin residence.
“Lara was lost without him,” Mr Franklin said.
“She wandered around the house, whimpered and did not know what do.
“It’s just so wonderful to have Jack back home and the two of them together again.”
