Stolen jewels returned to owner
Published: January 13, 2005
Police believe a thief may have been bothered by his conscience after £6,000 worth of stolen jewellery was returned to its rightful owner.
The haul, including necklaces and a £2,500 watch, was taken from a house near Crail in Fife last October.
The items were returned to the property near Crail Airfield in a bag with a note which is understood to blame someone else for the theft.
But police believe the thief himself may have returned the jewellery.
Officers are appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Tom Brown said: “We would very much like to hear from whoever returned this valuable jewellery as soon as possible.
“We would also like to assure them that any information they give us will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
