Couple rescued from drifting vessel
Published: January 10, 2005
Authorities came to the rescue of a man and woman on a 30-foot sailboat with faulty propellers and sail, who lost their way off the San Diego coast, a Coast Guard petty officer said.
Someone on the boat — dubbed the Sea Odyssey — called the Coast Guard about 9 a.m. from a cell phone, Petty Officer 1st Class Tim Burns said.
The man and the woman brought the drifting vessel closer to shore and were rescued by lifeguards who spotted the Odyssey off the Del Mar coastline, near the Fairgrounds.
The boat was brought to a mooring ball off Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, Burns said. A private company was called to retrieve the boat, Burns said.
