Amarillo resident nabs burglar who returned to scene

An Amarillo resident caught the same burglar twice after the man fled and then returned to retrieve his car.
The incident occurred about noon Tuesday at Stanley Zepp’s home in the 1900 block of Beech Street, according to a release from the Amarillo Police Department.
Zepp’s 14-year-old son had stayed home from school sick that day and called his father because he discovered a stranger in the house, said APD Sgt. Randy TenBrink.
Zepp rushed home to check on his son and found a man standing in another bedroom. Zepp made the man come out and sit on the living room floor, TenBrink said, but the burglar suddenly ran out the back door and eluded Zepp, who chased him.
After giving up the pursuit, Zepp noticed a red car parked in the alley with keys in the ignition, TenBrink said. Suspecting it was the burglar’s car, Zepp took the keys and waited. The man came back and Zepp pinned him between two vehicles and held him until police arrived, according to TenBrink.
Police arrested 21-year-old Brent Shawn Turner and booked him into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of burglary of a habitation, TenBrink said.
