The Area Agency on Aging has given Ageless Hero awards to Roselyn Goodell, 97, and George Weiss, 99.
Goodell, of Phoenix, was honored for her work with the Kivel Campus of Care, which cares for elderly Jewish residents.
Goodell, who came to the Valley from Cincinnati, taught first grade for many years there and in El Paso.
She has volunteered for more than 10 of the 15 years she has lived in Phoenix at the Kivel Center, visiting other people and helping out with their care. She has two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Weiss, of Sun City, was honored in the Vigor and Vitality category because he still drives, does all his own yard work and helps neighbors with handyman chores. He was married to his first late wife for 48 years and to his late second wife for 17 years. He has one child and one grandchild.
