Missing dog returned to handicapped girl

Published: October 16, 2004

So happy to have her dog back. Smiles, sparkling eyes, joy.

I want to make someone happy today.

Pug, a dog and special companion to a disabled child, is home again, healthy and happy after a three-day adventure with gracious guardians who rescued him from traffic.

The 10-year-old mixed-breed pug and Yorkshire, a companion to Keely Boyce, 14, wandered away Saturday; neighbors remember seeing him picked up by two teens who found him in the street.

The teens — Jordan Matthews, 16, and John Neff, 17 — kept Pug over the long Columbus Day weekend, when the animal shelter was closed, but couldn’t find the owner until reading about Keely’s loss in Tuesday’s edition of the Salina Journal.
