Ambulance officer saves life of man whose car crashed into Heathcote River.

An ambulance officer has saved the life of a Christchurch man whose car crashed into the Heathcote River.

The man is now in Christchurch Hospital.

A passerby called emergency services after seeing a car crash into the river shortly before two o’clock this morning.

Ambulance officer Dale Muller was first on the scene with his partner, and he dived into the river and pulled out the driver who was unable to help himself.

Still dripping wet, Mr Muller then drove the injured victim to hospital.

He then returned to base for a shower and a change of clothes.

His seniors are praising his quick actions which they say saved the driver’s life.
