Dolphin Rescued After Beaching Itself

Published: September 30, 2004

A SeaWorld crew rescued a dolphin in Carlsbad that had beached itself on Wednesday morning.

Officials said the marine mammal was cared for by good Samaritans and lifeguards until the crew arrived at around noon.

The approximately 4-foot long dolphin came ashore around midmorning on Carlsbad State Beach, a few hundred yards south of Tamarack Avenue. Lifeguard supervisor Karl Tallman said the dolphin was pushed back into the water by some passersby, but it quickly beached itself again.

Lifeguards kept the dolphin wet until the SeaWorld crew arrived and took it away to care for it.
