Missing child returned to mother

Springfield police spent much of Sunday looking for a 1-year-old boy who was reported abducted, but was later returned home.
Sunday morning, Kiam R. Jackson was discovered missing from his home in the 2100 block of North Clifton Avenue, said Officer Matt Brown, spokesman for Springfield Police Department.
Also gone was his baby sitter and the family’s 1994 Ford Taurus, Brown said.
Authorities issued a missing-child alert as well as an Amber Alert on Sunday evening, believing the child was with his baby sitter.
The mother, whose name police did not release, asked the baby sitter to come Saturday evening, Brown said.
She came home that night and found everyone asleep, Brown said. But when she got up the next morning, she found her baby gone and alerted the police.
Initially, the police had no reason to believe the baby was abducted, Brown said. But when the Taurus — a white vehicle with a green hood and a blue roof — was seen Sunday afternoon in Sullivan and heading east on Interstate 44, Brown said the police reclassified the incident as an abduction.
The child was returned home Sunday, Brown said.
Brown said police are still working to figure out what happened.
