Charity concert will rock Great Wall

Published: September 25, 2004

Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper are set to perform today at an unprecedented charity concert at the Great Wall, the latest in a series of high profile acts to help transform Beijing’s image from Communist staid to cutting edge.

“It’s so much more historical than America,” Keys said Friday. “I am very much inspired by my surroundings.”

The “Wall of Hope” concert, which will raise money for the China Children’s and Teenagers’ Fund, will mark the first time an international concert has been held there. Organizers expect more than 5,000 to attend the concert, which also features soul act Boyz II Men and singer Sylvia Tosun.
