Student rescued after mountain fall

Published: September 22, 2004

A 58-year-old environmental science student has been rescued after breaking his leg in a fall at Black Mountain in the ACT.

The man was walking with class mates along a track on the eastern side of the mountain this morning, when he jumped to avoid a falling branch.

Fellow students say he fell and rolled about 50 metres down a steep embankment.

Paramedic Louise Smith says it was quite an effort removing the injured man, who is in a stable condition at the Canberra Hospital.

“After splinting his leg giving him pain relief he was manually carried up, with several fire brigade officers ambulance officers and bystanders assisting with a safety line,” she said.
