Boaters rescued off shore
Published: September 21, 2004
A U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued four Harris County residents early Monday morning after their boat had sunk about eight miles southeast of Freeport.
The boat put out a mayday call to an offshore supply vessel, the Tony B, after it began taking on water, Coast Guard Lt. Scott Parkhurst said. The vessel relayed the boat’s distress call to the Coast Guard in Galveston about 8:10 p.m. Sunday, reports show.
Coast Guard officials sent a 47-foot lifeboat crew from Freeport and a helicopter crew from Houston to find the boaters, reports indicate.
