Inmates to run to raise money for children’s charity in Philadelphia

SHAMOKIN, Pa. About 24 inmates will be on the run this Saturday at S-C-I Coal Township, as part of an effort to raise funds for a children’s charity.
Prison Superintendent Frank Gillis says the inmates will join with other prisoners across the state in the 24th Annual Pennsylvania Prison Run-A-Thon.More than three thousand inmates statewide participate in the event each year, providing them an opportunity to give back to the community.Last year, inmates at S-C-I Coal Township logged nearly 239 miles and raised nearly 500 dollars.Statewide, prisoners raised more than 15-thousand dollars.This year’s event will benefit the Philadelphia Society for Services to Children.The Pennsylvania Prison Society coordinates the event.
