OFF-DUTY firefighers rescued two people from a burning building in Southwark.
The two officers burst into the flat at Ley House on Southwark Bridge Road at 4pm on Wednesday and led the residents to safety. Most of the flat was damaged by fire and the two occupants were taken to hospital suffering from the effects smoke inhalation.
A fire brigade spokesman said the cause was being investigated but could have been an electrical fault.
He added: “People should check appliances and make sure there are not too many plugs in one socket because this can cause problems.”
