Charity’s grant will help flood victims
Published: September 7, 2003
Catholic Charities of Sarasota and Manatee Counties has received a $10,000 grant to help victims of this summer’s floods.
The money can be used to assist people impacted by the heavy rains with such things as temporary rental or mortgage payments, food and water supplies, and other services.
“People who have been affected by the floods in Sarasota and Manatee counties are still in shock and not sure what they need yet to recover,” said Mary Koctur, director of the Financial Assistance Program of Catholic Charities. “Many flood victims are just now determining how much damage has been done to their property and their lives.”
Needs will be assessed based on information from the flood victims, the Red Cross, emergency management in Sarasota and Manatee counties, other local organizations, and churches.
The nonprofit agency of the Diocese of Venice was awarded the grant from Catholic Charities USA’s Disaster Response Office. The office, along with Catholic bishops, represents the Catholic community in times of domestic disaster.
