Eight-week-old Haley Willis is a happy and healthy little girl. But she wasn’t always that way–she wasn’t even suppose to be born alive. “The baby’s head was not closed and the brain was growing outside of her head,” says Haley’s mother Lynel Willis.
And Haley’s father Jeff adds, “It was life shattering. It seemed like the joy we were having just was ripped away.” So instead of planning a baby shower the Willis’ were planning a funeral, but they say that’s before a higher power stepped in.
“I just began asking the Lord–I had a kind of wish list,” Lynel Willis says. She wished to look into her child’s eyes, nurse her daughter and Jeff just wanted to hold his daughter’s hand.
“She held Jeff fingers and then a couple of house later I got to nurse her,” Lynel Willis says. And Jeff Willis says it might just have been the most special day of his life. “When she reached out and grabbed my finger that was just there was no other feeling in the world like it,” Jeff Willis says.
And the Willis’ say Haley’s recovery continues to stump her doctors.
“The doctor was just amazed are still amazed when he looks at her and all the specialist are just amazed she’s still alive,” Lynel Willis says.
Proving to the Willis’ that some things are simply out of human hands.
