Hijacked man liberated in minutes

A Sebokeng man who had been hijacked and tied up hand and foot was rescued and his abductors arrested all within ten minutes on Wednesday, police reported on Thursday.
Vaal Rand police spokesperson Thabo Seete said Johannes Mofokeng (36) was hijacked at gunpoint in Vanderbijlpark around midday by three men who tied him up and drove off with him in his Toyota Hilux bakkie.
Seete said police on a routine highway patrol signalled the bakkie to pull over but it sped away. The police gave chase and forced the bakkie to stop.
The three hijackers jumped out of the car and ran away. Police followed on foot and arrested two of them and recovered an unlicenced pistol.
Mofokeng was found in the bakkie bound and gagged but pleased at being rescued so soon after being hijacked.
The arrested men, aged 17 and 19, would appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Friday in connection with a charge of armed robbery, Seete said.
