48 Hours Fishing Bonanza for Charity

Published: September 4, 2003

As in past summers Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association (KFSA) will be holding its annual fishing marathon. Last year the marathon was in aid of the multi sensory unit being built by Razzet tal-Hbiberija, and it was a great success, but more funds are needed towards this cause so it was decided that this year the marathon should be a continuation from the last one and will also be in aid of RTHs’ multisensory unit.

The marathon will kick off on 5th of September at 1800hrs with the official opening following at 2000hrs, the task entrusted to the minister of Social Policy the Hon Dr Lawrence Gonzi, who kindly accepted the invitation to launch this years’ marathon.

For the very first time the marathon will take place in RTH territory, that is in Marsascala, along the promenade. 40 anglers divided into teams of 4 shall be participating. They will fish for 48hrs till closing time on the 7th September at 1800hrs.

As in previous years fish caught will be treated with the utmost care, these will be gently unhooked (most our anglers use mini barb hooks to make it easier to unhook), placed in elongated keep nets as deep as possible in the water. The fished are weighed every 3 hours and released in prime condition to continue gracing our sea.

The marathon in itself is a competition where the most weight landed will determine the winners from first to third.
The angler landing the biggest fish will also get a mention and a prize. Prizes will be in the form of trophies and vouchers.

Voucher will also be given to the top 3 collectors, these being the persons who collected the most monies by means of the sponsor sheet, which would have been distributed to all members 30 days prior the marathon.

Mister fish for the third consecutive year will be the main sponsor of this event.

While all the fishing is going on, the public shall be entertained during the evenings, by popular local talent, many renowned singers have generously agreed to participate and thus give a hefty helping hand. The show will continue even throughout Sunday evening.
