Books Donated to Sardis Library

Published: September 3, 2003

Monroe County 4-H Clubs recently completed a countywide community service project by delivering books to the Dally Memorial Library in Sardis.

According to Bruce Zimmer, 4-H Youth Development Agent, the book drive was designed to benefit an area of Monroe County that has not had easy library access. “It was also a great way to involve 4-H clubs across the county to help meet the needs of Dally Memorial Library and their library patrons.”
The drive ended on Aug. 18 as The Buckeye Bunch, a local Sardis 4-H club and the Ohio State University Extension Staff, delivered approximately 1,700 books of all types, shapes and sizes that were collected by 4-H clubs.

In addition, many individuals throughout the county donated toward the project. The books were received by Donna Dally, library board president, Judy Verdi, head of the Friends of the Library Committee, and Pat Price, board member.

The Dally Memorial Library will service the schools and communities along the Ohio River from Clarington to Fly. There are currently no library facilities at Sardis or Hannibal Elementary Schools. This new library will also assist the River High School students, as well as provide convenient, modern library services to over 3,000 Monroe County adults living in the riverfront area.

The library is planning a grand opening at 4 p.m. Sept. 12.
