Friends reunited after 40 years

Published: August 30, 2003

Kim Culley and Jonathan Dunkley went to primary school in Germany together. Their mothers worked in the British Military Hospital. At the age of six they went back to England.

Although their friendship remained strong they lost touch. Both walked different paths in life.

Three years ago Kim Culley went to Bahrain to become the centre manager of the Al A’ali Shopping Complex. On his personal website Kim’s wife posted details about Jonathan Dunkley.

By a stroke of luck, Mr Dunkley’s girlfriend saw the website and told him about it.

As it so happened, three years ago Jonathan Dunkley had moved to Bahrain as well where he had become a technical adviser for Bristow Helicopters.

Mr Culley, 52, expressed his happiness for being reunited with his friend after so many years of separation.

“Thanks to my wife’s brilliance I was able to meet my best friend once again,” he said.

“I can’t believe it. It is a dream coming true.

“I realise the chances of this happening are small and I am not willing to give up my friend again.

“We have decided to continue working in Bahrain until our retirement age.”
