donate, donated, donations - see what’s done

If you think only a much publicised telethon fundraiser is what gets the job done, think again.

Thor Industries has donated a customized Class A motorhome to the National Prostate Cancer Coalition to offer free prostate cancer screenings for men across the country.

That’s in Goshen, Elkhart County (USA).

Fran and Karen Legieko (Parkesburg, USA) donated a Thermal Imaging Camera to the local fire company.

According to Tim Reynolds, fire captain, a Thermal Imaging Camera is a very useful tool. “It takes heat sources and enables you to see through smoke, darkness, fires and rescues,” he said.

“It’s a priceless tool that came at a high price,” Reynolds said

Fran and Karen made the donation in memory of their 19 year old son who had been very active as a volunteer and fundraiser.

Even in death, he was helping other people, said his parents, as an organ donor. Karen Legieko said three recipients of John’s organs are doing well.

Seymour Community Schools Corp. received an automated external defibrillator. Southeastern Indiana Health Organization donated the defibrillator, while the wall-mounted case for the machine was donated by Schneck Medical Center.

The high school defibrillator is only one of many that are to be distributed throughout the community in an effort to lower the reaction time of trained responders, or people who can operate the AED, Jay Fischer of SIHO said.

“We want to have them wherever large groups of people congregate,” Fischer said. “The city has purchased 10 that will be placed throughout the city in places like police cars. The idea is to get these out anywhere we can as quickly as possible, so that at any event we can have a trained responder there in five minutes.”

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police received $55,000 to purchase a second DNA analysis machine.

In the past three years, N.C. authorities have solved more than 160 crimes based on a statewide database of more than 35,000 convicted felons. Nationwide, new DNA testing of evidence has also exonerated more than 60 inmates.
