Rowdy Bunch off for a quiet break
Published: August 25, 2003
The Rowdy Bunch (UK) is a club for young people with disabilities. Every year they go on a trip to a specially adapted centre. It’s a great adventure for the kids.
But this year they’re weren’t enough people to help run the charity. The trip would need to be cancelled as it is too expensive. A last-ditch fundraising attempt was made - and succeeded.
The trip was made possible through a £4,500 award from the Lottery Commission and a £3,500 grant from Children in Need as well as donations from a range of local businesses
The group of 17 kids and 19 volunteers will go to Calvert Trust to partake in activities such as abseiling and rock climbing.
Maria Pavone, mother of Stephan (14), says the trip helps to build confidence.
“The environment and being with other children his own age really brings him out of his shell,” she said.
“It gives him confidence and makes him feel like everybody else.”
