Last Tuesday 2 whales were rescued off the coast of Hau’ula Beach Park (USA) where they were stranded.
blockquote>Since the whales’ rescue, volunteer veterinarians and biologists have been watching them constantly. More blood tests and blood cultures were taken yesterday. The results of the blood cultures will not be available for several days
Veterinarians don’t know what caused the whales to strand, largely because these animals are still a mystery to scientists.
The whales eat much better by now while they swim on their own again.
We’re crossing our fingers; one might say we’re cautiously optimistic,” [Marley] Breese [University of Hawai'i Marine Mammal Research program] said. But, she added, “We always need to keep in mind there was a reason why they were on the beach.”
The whales’ progress is encouraging and good enough for them to be moved to an enclosed portion of a lagoon at the Marine Mammal Research rehabilitation facility at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kane’ohe.
