Grandmother jumps off building for charity
Published: August 19, 2003
Shirley Wheeler. a Warwickshire (UK) grandmother is one of the first people to volunteer for a charity abseil organised by Cancer Research UK. She’ll be joining up to possibly 170 people who will jump of a 50 feet high building.
Shirley’s husband died of bowel cancer just a month ago.
Mrs Wheeler, of Cranhill, Bidford, said: “John and I watched the abseil take place last year and I told him I’d like to have a go at the next one. He was very encouraging and told me I should do it because I had nerves of steel.
She collected Stratford’s Shakespeare Hospice at her husband’s funeral.
Cancer Research UK relies almost completely on donations and charity to fund research.
