Men rescued after cold night in the Hills

Bob Helmberger (54) and Bob Fox (75) had been scouting for deer. As they left for home their pickup quit on them. They continued on foot in the hope to find a ride. When darkness fell and they couldn’t see where they were going anymore they stayed put.

Crop-a-Cop for charity

Nine years ago Sergeant Karl David came up with the idea of Crop-a-Cop day, now called Bluey Day. The fundraising idea: shave a cop’s head and let the proceeds go to children’s hospitals. Bluey Day is held nationally and involves emergency service personnel as well as police in each state. One thousand dollars is raised for each shaved head.

David Land (60) suffered a back injury while climbing the Ruenzori Mountains bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ugandan officials confirmed that his rescued had been completed late yesterday evening. »

Wookie’s second chance

Now they call him Wookie, after Chewbacca, a furry character in Star Wars. He weighs 24 kg and has a wonderful fur which makes him instantly recognisable as a Collie; a “Lassie” dog. »

Ezekiel Kenui (49) happened by chance upon a bone marrow drive. The drive was to benefit a leukemia patient and Ezekiel registered. Unfortunately he wasn’t a match for that patient. »

Children saved from burning building

A five unit apartment complex in St.Stephen (Canada) caught fire and was subsequently destroyed by the blaze. However, no-one was seriously injured. »

Wheelchair Donated To Needy Boy

Kevin Doherty (12) suffers from Cerebal Palsy. This weekend someone stole his special $3,500 wheelchair, without which he can’t leave the basement of his parents’ place nor attend therapy.

Girls, 15 and 9, survive fire

Two girls, aged 15 and 9, were at home in Dulwich (UK) when they noticed that something was being psuhed through the letter box. They heard some crackling and then saw smoke. The flat was on fire and the front door, through which letter box the arson device had been entered, was their only way out - but it now was on fire. »

Pilot: it’s a mircale we survived

Richard Murray (57) was flying his six-passenger Beechcraft Baron twin-propelled airplane accompanied by his wife Ruthann (57), their son Matt (30), and their two dogs. They were flying back home from a stay at their cotage. 40 km. from Kingston Airport, where they planned to refuel, the right engine failed and fuel pressure dropped. The engine restarted shortly only to give up again. Richard would have to land on one engine.

Man’s sight restored

Michael May (49) has been blind since the age of 3 when he was in a chemical explosion. In 2000 he underwent an operation where stem cells were transplanted onto the surface of his right eye. The left eye was too damaged to work with.

Only 4 minutes into her trip home a ferry smashed into the rocks in thick fog off the coast of Herm (UK). The radio call for help was answered by a lifeboat and all passengers were taken on board of another ferry.

Police in Malaysia were able to arrest a baby smuggler and rescue two Indonesian babies. The babies had been given milk laced with sleeping pills and were brought into the country in a plastic foam box.
